Joint Candidate Forum: Court of Appeals & Jefferson Circuit Court

The LBA's Young Lawyers Section will host a Joint Candidate Forum for the Court of Appeals and Jefferson Circuit Court on Tuesday, October 16 from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. at the Bar Center.

The Court of Appeals has fourteen judges, two elected from seven appellate court districts. The judges are divided into panels of three to review and decide cases, with the majority determining the decision. The panels do not sit permanently in one location, but travel about the state to hear cases. Running for Kentucky Court of Appeals is: Irv Maze and James M. “Jim” Shake.

The Jefferson Circuit Court is the court of general jurisdiction that hears civil matters involving more than $5,000, capital offenses and felonies, land dispute title cases and contested probate cases. Circuit Court has the power to issue injunctions, writs of prohibition and writs of mandamus and to hear appeals from District Court and administrative agencies. Running for Jefferson Circuit Court is: Wanda Mitchell Baker, Angela McCormick Bisig and Eric L. Ison.

Members of the Louisville Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section will moderate the forum.
