The Louisville Bar Association Placement Service matches area law firms seeking qualified attorneys and legal support staff with the appropriate employees. The service refers attorneys, legal secretaries, paralegals, receptionists and other legal support staff for full and part-time employment.

Placement Director David Mohr is well versed in the legal market with 20 years of legal staffing experience, in addition to 10 years of prior paralegal experience. The Louisville Bar Association is currently looking to fill the following positions:

CREDITORS RIGHTS PARALEGAL – Well established law office located in the Clifton Heights area is currently seeking to hire a full-time creditors rights paralegal.  Duties include but are not limited to; Effectively manage and collect on accounts as they progress through the legal stream. Inbound and outbound collection calls, (i.e. defendants, employment, banks and courts). Analyze each customer’s financial situation and negotiate appropriate payment arrangements and settlements. Strong computer skills in Excel and Microsoft Word, with the ability to learn about new technologies. Adhere to compliance standards, applicable laws and regulations that govern third-party collections (i.e. FDCPA, Reg-F, General Bankruptcy knowledge as it applies to collections). Adhere to quality standards set by the firm and our clients. Meet or exceed monthly production goals for monthly BONUSES. Must have associate’s degree in a legal-related field OR High School diploma with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a collections and/or legal environment. Excellent phone skills which demonstrate confidence, initiative and negotiation skills. Experience in skip tracing to locate defendants and assets. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Fundamental financial understanding. Work both independently and as a team in a rapidly evolving environment. Salary determined based on experience and education. Monthly bonuses paid based on whole-dollar collection amount. They have 14 paid holidays.  The hours are Monday through Thursday 8 am to 5:30 pm and Friday 8 am to 12 pm. PTO accrues after 90 days.

LEGAL ASSISTANT - Small downtown Louisville law office is currently seeking a full-time (37.5 hrs wk) legal assistant to help support their varied practice. Preference will be given to those candidates who speak Spanish. Responsibilities: Provide administrative support to lawyers and enhance office effectiveness. Handle communication with clients including intakes. Assist in the preparation of case briefs and summarize depositions, interrogatories and recorded testimony. Locate and develop case relevant information. Type up and file basic legal documents and correspondence. Answer and direct phone calls. Maintain internal office documents, files and lists. Monitor deadlines and firm calendars. Necessary Skills: Proven working experience as legal assistant. Familiarity with law, legal procedures and protocols, and court system. Satisfactory knowledge of day-to-day operations of a legal office. Computer literacy. Working knowledge of case management software. Excellent secretarial and organizational skills. Ability to juggle multiple tasks and work under pressure. Client management/customer service skills. Compensation/Benefits: Salary commensurate with experience, paid parking, employee health insurance, short-term disability and life insurance.

BUSINESS & CIVIL LITIGATION ATTORNEY - The LBA’s Placement Service is currently working with a well-established boutique law office located on the east side of Louisville. This firm has a varied practice and is seeking an experienced Litigaiton Attorney to support a mix of civil and business litigation disputes. These disputes can arise from employment, contract and business matters. Candidate must have at least 5 years of experience with such matters in Kentucky. IN or TN license is a plus. Must be in good standing and have excellent references. Salary is based on experience, plus full benefits, including 100% paid health and dental insurance, retirement plan with a 3% match, PTO and a 10% origination credit if you bring any business. There is a 1600 hour billable goal for the year and a 25% bonus if bill over 1600. Firm feels a competent team player will find they offer an excellent work life balance.

ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY – The LBA’s Placement Service is currently working with a well-established boutique law office located on the east side of Louisville that concentrates exclusively on business litigation matters. They are currently seeking to hire an Associate Attorney with at least 3+ years of experience practicing as an attorney in Kentucky. Business litigation experience would be a plus but would consider any civil litigation experience. A small book of transferable business or the ability to drum up a little bit of business would be a plus as well, but not a deal breaker, as the firm has a steady amount of work to keep you busy 90% of the time. Salary is commensurate with experience and benefits are offered as well.

DEFENSE LITIGATION PARALEGAL – The LBA’s Placement Service is currently working with a well-established defense firm located in downtown Louisville that is currently seeking to hire a full-time Paralegal. The firm’s practices include; Medical Malpractice, Products Liability, Healthcare Law and Construction Law. The idea candidate will possess past experience working in a litigation firm and be proficient in editing and formatting legal pleadings, electronic filing and in Outlook regarding emails and scheduling for multiple attorneys. Must have knowledge of paperless document storage/file management and be proficient in adobe (combining documents, extracting, bates labeling, exporting for document production). Candidate must be able to request medical records/review/organization of same. The firm offers a comfortable and professional work environment, with competitive pay and an excellent benefits package, including paid parking.

BANKRUPTCY ASSISTANT / PARALEGAL – The LBA’s Placement Service is currently working with a small Louisville law office that’s in search of a motivated, reliable legal assistant, who is proficient in Google, Outlook, Word suite and has good people skills. Job responsibilities include: scheduling new clients for appointments, interacting with current/new clients, drafting court documents and letters, (mostly form based), answering phones occasionally, assisting 2 attorneys with day to day tasks, which could also include; entry of credit report information into bankruptcy software, e-filing documents with federal and state court systems, calendar entries for appointments and court events, phone calls to current clients with requested information. Training provided for all specialized tasks. The successful candidate will be an independent worker who can manage a workload of several cases and their various needs at one time.  Salary is commensurate with experience.

LEGAL ASSISTANT - The LBA’s Placement Service is currently working with a regional law firm with an office located on the east side of Louisville. They are seeking to hire a full-time Legal Assistant to be part of their Medical Malpractice Defense group. Candidate would need strong verbal & written communication skills, attention to detail, excellent knowledge of computers, Outlook, Word and Internet.  Court e-filing experience preferred. Candidate should have 2 or more years of experience supporting an attorney with civil litigation matters. Competitive pay based on experience, plus an extensive benefits package.

MEDICAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY - The LBA is currently working with a growing Medical Defense law office located on the east side of Louisville that is seeking to add an Attorney to their practice. They would like a 2+ year lawyer with experience in medical malpractice, long term care, or injury law.   The ability to work with medical records or learn how to work with medical records is a must. Excellent writing and communication skills are required.  Prior litigation/court experience (of any kind) is required.  Court appearances (some requiring travel to all parts of the state) are necessary.  If there are no candidates fitting this role, they are willing to train the right person.  The practice is highly litigious with a lot of motion practice, brief writing, and arguments.  The non-experienced candidate needs to have a strong background in those areas (or just a strong backbone) and be willing to learn the medical side.  The job is full-time.  Salary is competitive and based on experience.  1800/yr billable goal.  Excellent benefits package, plus discretionary bonuses twice a year.

DEFENSE ATTORNEY - The LBA’s Placement Service is currently working with a medium size law office in downtown Louisville that is seeking to hire both a seasoned Attorney that can handle cases with minimal supervision, as well as a newer Attorney.  The firm primarily has a civil defense practice consisting of insurance defense type cases.  The seasoned Attorney candidate must have at least 4+ years of experience with civil litigation in Kentucky. The newer Attorney can be a recent graduate to 2+ years of any experience. Excellent salary based on experience, plus bonus opportunities.

CRIMINAL DEFENSE PARALEGAL – The LBA’s Placement Service is currently working with a downtown criminal defense office that is seeking a full-time paralegal with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Paralegal studies, strong research skills, knowledge of the adversary legal system and the defense role and function in that system, the ability to work in a group setting, share responsibilities with other paralegals and excellent organizational and writing skills are necessary for the position.  Hourly pay, plus benefits.

The process by which we perform the candidate search goes as follows:

  1. Those interested should e-mail a job description, including work hours, salary, benefits offered, a brief description of job duties, and experience and education level desired of the candidates to Placement Director David Mohr at dmohr@loubar.org.
  2. David will then search his database of candidates for those who fill the specified requirements and are actively seeking employment. He will also advertise and recruit for the position.
  3. Once he has found a suitable group of candidates (i.e., only those who appear to meet the qualifications needed to perform the job), David will submit, to you, the resumes of those individuals.
  4. If you choose to hire a candidate unassociated with the LBA Placement Service, you owe nothing. If you do hire a candidate provided by the LBA, we will generate an invoice for the placement after verifying he or she is performing well as an employee of your firm. Should that candidate not work out for any reason within 45 days of placement, we will restart the recruiting and interview efforts to replace that candidate at no extra charge.
